27th July: Leadership Team Meeting 8:00pm: following on from ‘Time for God’

Anna Stewart

Many of our members will remember Anna Stewart who preached at RSBC a number of times a few years ago. Sadly, Anna died of cancer on the 8th June at the age of 62. She leaves a husband and three grown up daughters.  Anna was from originally from Scotland but in recent years was based in Coventry.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.

May 6th 2010

Our leadership team met with Home Mission representatives to discuss our application for a grant for 2011.  Please pray that the funds would be released to enable us to continue to support Katherine as our full-time minister.

April 2010

Our offering in aid of BMS (Baptist Missionary Society) raised £200.  Thank you to all who gave.

Congratulations to Charlotte on her engagement to Joe.

March 2010

The leaders and members of RSBC send their congratulations to Laura & Andy on their recent marriage.

As part of our commitment to 'Fairtrade' (see below) the church is in the process of switching to Fairtrade drinks in our vending machine. We are also now purchasing Fairtrade coffee, tea and sugar.

JANUARY 2010  -  Brrrrrrr!!!

Members of our young people's group having fun in the snow!

What a happy snowman!

At our recent business meeting the church agreed to adopt a Fairtrade policy whenever possible. This will include buying Fairtrade products, such as tea and coffee. We are also planning to have a service in the new year where we will look at how we can further support Fairtrade producers and explain to members the benefits of buying Fairtrade products and how it impacts the lives of workers in some of the poorest countries in the world.

We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Revd Katherine Pickford as our new minister.  Katherine took up her new post on October 1st.  This is her first full-time ministry appointment.                                          Katherine previously worked in the NHS before taking up the call to train for full-time ministry at Spurgeon's College in London.

CHURCH ARCHIVE - RECENT ARTICLES, NEWS ETC

MR HARRY ROBERTS

29th April 2007 - 1.00pm  There was a funeral service for Harry Roberts.  Harry was a much loved member of our church for many years.  Though very frail in recent years, he still managed to get to church each Sunday until a few months ago. Harry will be remembered for being a great encourager and for his rafter rattling prayer style!  Harry is now where he wanted to be!

MISS HILDA JANET BARNETT - PASSED AWAY 8th DECEMBER 2005

Pictured after a baptism service for some of our younger members in 2001, Hilda could remember when over 70 children attended the Sunday school which she ran during the early part of the last century.

The church has lost one if it's oldest and longest serving members.  Hilda, or Miss Barnett as many will remember her, had been an active member of the Baptist Church in Radford Semele for well over 70 years.  Even in her 95th year, Hilda was still a regular attender at our services and especially our Women's Fellowship meetings. Hilda had seen many changes during her long life, not just within the church but also in the world around her.

Born before the two world wars, before the Titanic sank and well before women were granted the right to vote!  During her time at Radford Semele Baptist Church, Hilda had played a very active part in running Sunday Schools, Youth Groups, including Christian Endeavour, as well as leading and helping to organise the Women's Fellowship group, which she played a part in up until the last couple of years.

One memorable comment I can remember hearing Hilda come out with was a few weeks ago when she was complaining of feeling tired. "I think old age is creeping up on me," she said.  I had to remind her that at 95 it most probably was!

Hilda Barnett will be much missed by all those who knew her, not just as a member of the church but around the village where she had lived for so  much of her life.

A funeral service was held on 21st December at the Baptist Church when well over 100 people paid their last respects and heard a number of people speak who all shared their special memories of Hilda.

A memorial bench and a tree were dedicated to Hilda on 6th August 2006 and take pride of place in the rear garden of the church.
