CONCERT REVIEWS
MAMAGOSPEL
in concert at
Assembly Rooms - Leamington Spa Town Hall - 10th October 2009
Another super concert from Mamagospel! This was the culmination of the choir's Gospel Workshop weekend, this year featuring international singer/songwriter Emma Pears. Emma is busy working with the Salvation Army as well as pursuing a solo career as a performer and recording artist. Emma spent the weekend with the choir, the result of which was teaching them two brand new songs to add to their already impressive and varied repertoire.
The choir just gets better and better as new soloists come to the fore and with a very able backing band, provide a very polished and professional performance.
MAMAGOSPEL
in concert at
Salvation Army Headquarters Upper Well Street Coventry
19th September 2009
This joint concert with the Salvation Army's 'Coventry Songsters' provided a pleasant evening's musical entertainment and a variety of musical styles. Under the excellent direction of Captain Leanne Wallis, Mamagospel performed a varied mix of gospel songs as well as one or two audience participation songs, while the 'Coventry Songsters' offered a perfect contrast with their more traditional choral offerings. The sound of the two choirs singing together brought the evening to a close but it is hoped that further joint concerts can be arranged. A special mention to the sound man who did an excellent job balancing the microphones and to the staff at the Salvation Army who helped to stage the event.
Mamagospel in Concert
at Dale Street Methodist Church
15th November 2008
Making a second visit to Dale Street, Mamagospel gave an excellent concert in aid of The Well Christian Healing Centre. Under the direction of Capt Leanne Wallis, the choir gave a confident performance featuring several new songs and one or two new faces taking solos. With a few light hearted songs thrown in for good measure, the whole evening was a great success and further proof that Mamagospel is one of the area's finest choirs.
Mamagospel
in concert at
The Assembly Rooms - Leamington Town Hall
April 26th 2008
The perfect end to a spring like day was a packed two hours of some of the best in modern gospel music. Interspersed with a few popular songs from the likes of Billy Joel and Westlife, Mamagospel again provided a varied program with something to suit all tastes.
Under the leadership of Lieutenant Leanne Wallis, the choir was in fine voice and a special treat was an appearance by Camilla Thomas who until last summer, was the choir's leader. Camilla had flown over from Denmark for this special two-day gospel weekend worskshop. On the Saturday afternoon Camilla had taught the choir a number of new songs which were very well received by the enthusiastic audience.

An enthusiastic audience enjoyed a double bill of entertainment when Mamagospel from Leamington Spa and the Nuneaton Salvation Army Band provided a varied evening of music and song. Friday 17th May - Dale Street Methodist Church
It was a packed church at Dale Street Methodist Church for Mamagospel's latest concert, and what a concert it was! Over £1000 was raised for NCH (National Children's Homes) and the audience was treated to some really excellent gospel style singing. This was Capt Camilla Thomas's last official engagement with the choir before she moves back to Denmark, her home country. Thank you Mamagospel for what was a memorable evening of great music!

Saturday 24th March 2007 - Leamington Spa Town Hall
This was the second time for the choir at Leamington's Town Hall and the improvement over last year's performance (and they were good then!) was obvious from the very first song. The choir is now singing with greater confidence and the quality of the phrasing and intonation is of a very professional standard. As at last year's concert, Henriette Andreassen was the special guest and the concert itself was the culmination of a 3 day 'Gospel Weekend' during which time the choir learnt several new songs, some written by Henriette herself.
What makes a Mamagospel concert so enjoyable is the sheer variety of music they perform. From traditional gospel style songs to modern ballads and even a bit of jazz now and again, this is a very versatile choir indeed. This year's concert was yet again a sell-out so make sure you get your tickets well in advance for their next show! Well done to all the singers and musicians who provided a very memorable and enjoyable evening and particular thanks to Henriette and Camilla for all their hardwork!

Saturday 24th February 2007 - Northgate Methodist Church
Mamagospel played to an enthusiastic crowd as they gave their first concert of 2007. The venue was ideal for the choir as the acoustics are excellent and the church enjoys the benefit of an excellent sound system. With a number of new songs the choir provided an excellent evening of musical entertainment. Credit must go to Captain Camilla Thomas. Her enthusiasm is infectious as she directs the choir through a wide range of musical styles and for the way she encourages individual choir members to introduce some of the songs. Let's hope it won't be long before the choir pay a return visit to Northgate Methodost Church!

Saturday 2nd December 2006 - St Mary's Church, Warwick
Once again Mamagospel provided a wonderful evening of entertainment with a variety of Gospel and secular songs, with one or two surprises thrown in for good measure. Has St Marys Church in Warwick ever before resounded to the sound of Amazing Grace sung to a tune from The Lion King? It has now! Mamagospel show a versatility and quality of singing on a par with some of the top American choirs and judging by their increasing popularity and local following, this is a choir that is bound to go from strength to strength.
The enthusiasm of the choir leader, Captain Camilla Thomas, is infectious and shows in the joy that is radiated from the choir as they give their all in one song after another.
Don't miss the chance to hear this excellent choir if they appear at a venue near you!
