RSBC Community Project

There are currently very few activities for children and young people in the village outside of school activities. There is a growing need for such activity with increasing households in the village. The project will provide facilities to host activities of many different types in a safe and welcoming space.

Currently the Main Building has poor disabled access, no toilets and is not in a suitable condition for events to take place. By joining the two buildings together and refurbishing the under utilised church we can change it from a worship area to a multi- purpose community building thus meeting the needs of the village.

We intend doing this in three phases:

  1. An annex will join the two buildings together and create a new bright and welcoming entrance area. The annex has been designed to be in keeping with the rest of the building and will include, ramped access and level access to both buildings, disabled toilets, baby changing facilities and an additional lounge/meeting room.
  2. Will involve external pointing, new lighting, heating, carpets and chairs in the Main Church and levelling the stage and baptistry area to make one large multi-use room.
  3. We will create a community garden area for all to use.

The proposed changes will make the building more accessible and usable for a wider range of activities. The new entrance area will include access to both buildings, disabled toilet facilities, baby changing facilities and a meeting room. This will give users:

  • Access to toilets from the Main Building without the need to go outside and up and down steps
  • Disabled toilet facilities and easy access to both buildings allowing people with disabilities and mobility issues to use the buildings independently without the need of a carer
  • Easy access for prams and pushchairs giving parents safer supervision of children
  • Baby changing facilities, removing the need for parents to change them unsafely on their knee or dirty floor

The addition of a meeting room will allow us to utilise the two back rooms for storage, giving us greater flexibility with the use of the Main Building. The new meeting room will be more inviting for creative thinking and counselling sessions.

In addition, having a range of rooms accessible without going outside will allow different uniformed organisations to meet at the same time in one venue and allow larger events to run breakout sessions.

Thank you to all those who have donated so far.
